D&H wreck in Clifton Park (1987)

Having lived in Clifton Park for several years, I find pictures of the D&H in that area interesting. Here are shots showing two engines (D&H U33C #650, AT&SF SD26 #638) clearly having a bad day. Taken on June 13, 1987, it looks like the track on the left has shifted a bit as the ballast amount around the ties is a lot lower than on the track on the right. Is it a temporary shoe-fly track already laid? I dunno, but if that was the original track then it survived two engines coming derailing on it remarkably well.

Nor do I have a clue what those weird steel fabrications are in the shot below. Are they part of a bridge, or soil retention system? And look at all the visible roof tanks on that SF engine which I think are normally hidden by the top hood superstructure.

  1. I believe that the weird steel fabrications in the lower picture is wreck cribbing built to hold AT&SF #638 when the long end is lifted up and shifted to the right by the wrecking derrick.
